Ankle & Foot Pain

ANKLE AND FOOT PAIN AFFECTS PEOPLE OF ALL AGES.

These are common complaints. It affects people of all ages. It may be the result of injury, overuse, ageing and genetic factors. Very often the pain comes from changes that occur in the joint lining, for example, arthritis or ligament tears that occur as a result of injury.

Occasionally the pain can come from conditions such as Gout and rarely infection.

When you presented to our clinic for assessment we often look for the following

  • Redness and warmth to the touch
  • Weakness or instability
  • Popping or crunching noises
  • “Locking” or inability to fully move the ankle
  • Can’t bear weight on your ankle
  • Have marked ankle swelling
  • Have a fever, in addition to redness, pain and swelling in your knee
  • Fall because your ankle “gives way “
  • Ankle sprain

After your assessment, a management plan would be arranged for you. Very often you will be instructed in a home exercise program that aims to improve strength, balance and/or flexibility. If the examination indicates a significant issue , then often you will need to see an orthopaedic surgeon. As a patient of the clinic, we are often able to fast track your access to specialist care if required. We have 2 ankle/foot specialists available for consultation in our centre.

If required, we can arrange an MRI. If the MRI indicates a significant issue, then specialist review will often be recommended.
Please review the following foot page from the Orthosports web site (click here). It contains information regarding various injuries, operative animations which in a friendly way, will show you the anatomy as well as some of the surgical procedures that are available.
